Daily games like Wordle
Wordle made the once-a-day game a habit: everyone gets the same puzzle, it takes a few minutes, and you share a result that doesn’t spoil it for friends. Here are some popular free daily games in that spirit, and the one we make.
Wordle
The New York Times. Guess the five-letter word in six tries. Colored tiles show which letters are right and where they go.
Connections
The New York Times. Sort 16 words into four groups of four. Four mistakes and the game is over.
Strands
The New York Times. Find the theme words hidden in a grid of letters, including one that stretches across the board.
The Mini Crossword
The New York Times. A small crossword most people finish in a minute or two.
Worldle
Guess the country from its outline. Each wrong guess tells you how far away the answer is and in which direction.
Globle
Guess the mystery country. Every guess lights up on a globe, colored by how close it is.
Framed
Guess the movie from a handful of stills, one more with each wrong guess.
Costcodle
Guess the price of a Costco item, with higher-or-lower hints after each guess.
Price Was What?
That’s us. Every night at midnight Eastern we pick a year between 1960 and 2023 and five everyday things, like a dozen eggs, a gallon of gas, a stamp, a month’s rent or a new house. You guess what each one cost back then, with five guesses per item and higher-or-lower and digit clues. Every price is real and comes from a published source, like the Bureau of Labor Statistics or the Census Bureau. At the end you get a receipt to share, without the prices.
Game names belong to their makers. Price Was What? isn’t affiliated with any of them.
